DEFINITION:  It's difficult to come up with a precise term in response to the query, "So what do YOU do for a living?" Call it voiceover, voice-over, voice actor or voice artist... basically, I'm a verbal communicator. "Professional voice talent" seems to say it as well as anything. 
TALENT ENHANCED WITH EXPERIENCE: I've compiled over 15 years' experience as a female voice talent.  Many ad agencies, recording studios, and production companies call me first when they've got a voiceover job that needs done. On any given day, my voice may be employed in recording radio or TV commercials, technical or industrial training narration power point (especially the extremely popular computer-based training, or CBT, format), audio books and DVD's for entertainment or instruction, on-hold phone messages or voice mail navigation, imaging liners and promos for radio/TV stations or voice prompts for web/program navigation.
HOW THE VOICEOVER INDUSTRY HAS CHANGED: Recently, the voiceover industry has been turned upside down by the internet and an audio format called MP3, which renders high-quality audio files at roughly 1/10th the size of the previously dominant format (.wav). This means that the voiceover component of a 30-second commercial can now be recorded and sent as an email attachment not much larger than your average Word document. Geographical barriers are now irrelevant. While my home/studio is in the South Florida area, I can now offer voiceover services for clients anywhere in the country (or the world). The vast majority of my voice jobs are delivered via FTP (file transfer protocol)...and most jobs can be completed within 24 hours.
