FAQ: 5 tips for kickboxing pants

Are kickboxing pants short or long? Both are correct, because the correct choice of pants depends on the discipline. You will find answers to this question and others in our FAQ.

Special features of the pants

No. 1: Interesting facts about kickboxing pants

The first big difference to the East Asian martial arts is that you almost always have to buy the jacket and pants separately. Very few overalls or combinations are offered, which probably goes back to the WAKO rules.

However, the functions are the same: absorbing sweat to cool the body and ensuring maximum mobility without sticking.

Kickboxing pants are produced in two basic versions. The first variant is similar to the shorts in Muay Thai or boxing and only covers the hips and thighs, while the second goes down to the ankles.

Short or long

No. 2: short or long pants for kickboxing?

The difference here is not important in training for the time being, but it makes a big difference for admission to competition. The following is a brief overview of which kickboxing pants you need in which discipline at WAKO:

Pointfighting Long kickboxing pants
Light contact Long kickboxing pants
Kick-Light Shorts
Full contact Long kickboxing pants
VK with Low Kick Shorts
K1-Rules Shorts

Sizes and colors of the kickboxing pants

No. 3: What size trousers?

Due to the wide cut shape, there are again unit sizes that are only measured by body size. You won’t find separate labels for length and width like jeans here, but the well-known names S, M, L often appear in connection with the size. The kickboxing pants usually sit with an elastic band on the hip, in some cases also with a combination of the elastic band with a lacing.

When it comes to the available colors, there is no limit to the imagination of dealers. Many colors are available, with black and red dominating the range. Interestingly, the WAKO rules do not provide any information on competition colors.

Materials and Manufacturers

No. 4: Popular manufacturers of kickboxing pants

The same rules generally apply to shorts and ankle-length trousers in terms of materials and cleaning. In most cases the clothing is made of pure polyester or polyamide, which hardly makes a difference as they are both synthetic fibers. A combination of these two fibers or with other materials is also possible.

Well-known manufacturers from whom you can buy kickboxing pants are, as always, the martial arts outfitters Kwon and Ju Sports with affordable entry-level models. In addition, the brands Adidas and Top Ten are available on the market with slightly higher priced products. The price difference is quite small here compared to other areas.

Cleaning the pants

No. 5: Tips for cleaning your pants

As mentioned above, polyester and polyamide are both plastic fibers with good properties for sporty use, but which have their edges when cleaning.

  • In general, these fabrics must not be washed over 40 ° C and the tumble dryer is one of the natural enemies of kickboxing pants. In general, you should simply refrain from treating anything that means heat, unless otherwise stated in the washing instructions. Ironing is no longer necessary, as the plastics could melt in the process.
  • For the wash cycle, it is best to put the kickboxing pants separately in the machine or wash them together with soft clothing without zippers. Any clothing with metal buttons or buckles can also cause serious damage to the soft materials.
  • For the spin cycle, it is best to choose a low speed of 600 revolutions per minute and later leave the pants hanging on the line for a few extra hours.
