Learn basic techniques and Tae Bo

Tae Bo Training

Tae Bo differs from other martial arts because it consists of a combination of several martial arts. Of course, this also shapes the training, outfit and basic techniques used.

In this post we would like to give you a little insight into the training and basic techniques and introduce you to the equipment you need for it.

Of course, you have the opportunity to learn Tae Bo in a suitable fitness center or martial arts club. This is also the best option, since weak points are immediately noticeable in direct training and a team spirit is created. However, you can also learn some Tae Bo exercises on your own. Video courses are ideal for this.

Outfit and equipment for training

At Tae Bo will with special bandages trained. They serve to stabilize the wrists without your mobility being restricted. In addition, the bandages in the original Tae Bo, developed by Billy Blanks, have another function: they become in different colors worn so that you can immediately see how much experience the athlete already has. This makes it easier for the trainer to differentiate between beginners and advanced learners.

In addition to the bandages, you don’t need any special outfits to wear. Comfortable sportswear, in which you can move well, is recommended. Also make sure that the Shoes are not too heavy so that you can do your rotations quickly and easily. It is advisable to wear shoes with cushioning protection that cushion movements well.

Typical training content

There are many elements in Tae Bo that come from Asian martial arts. The main difference, however, is that you do not train with an opponent or partner. Instead, each participant follows the instructions of the instructor for himself and performs his exercises, figures and forms in or against the direction of movement – independently of the other people present. There are numerous combinations of steps and choreographies made up of individual elements. Each instructor can also develop new combinations, add elements or change existing sequences. It is only important that the eight basic techniques are retained and that the defined form of Tae Bo does not change. Then a modification is also permissible.

The eight basic techniques are precisely defined in Tae Bo. In addition, these techniques are even numbered in sequence. Often the instructor only gives the numbers after a few courses in which the participants have already safely learned the techniques. The shapes are memorable and don’t seem complicated at first glance. However, it is important to do it accurately and cleanly. The rhythm must be adhered to and a certain amount of energy must be applied. Only then does Tae Bo not only serve as a cardio workout, but also specifically stimulate and strengthen the muscles.

Basic techniques in Tae Bo

The eight basic techniques consist of four punches, i.e. the so-called punches, and four kicks, i.e. the kicks. The punches include:

Der Jab: This punch can be divided into three variants, namely the offensive jab for the attack, the stationary jab, which is performed while standing and the leadleg jab, which you combine with a lunge.
Der Cross Punch: In doing so, you turn your body around its own axis. This punch therefore also brings a lot of force with it.
Der Hook: It consists of a blow from bottom to top, i.e. the classic hook.
Der Uppercut: It is similar to the hook, except that the elbow is not straightened, but remains bent all the time.

In addition, there are those four kicksthat are quite simple. In order for them to develop their effect, a lot of training is required. Because you need mobility and strength to do this.

The front kick: There is a step forward.
The roundhouse kick: During the step you turn once around your own axis.
The sidekick: This step is done in the lateral direction.
The backkick: Here the kick is performed backwards.

To learn these techniques, it is recommended that you enroll in a gym. There are also DVDs and videos for at home, but outside help is always better suited to learn the proper practice of Tae-Bo techniques.
